Description: Can you keep a ball in the air while naming your favorite television show? This type of exercise uses both sides of your brain, encouraging growth of these all-important brain reserves.
If you are interested in exercising your brain and having a little fun along the way, join the Community Library of Allegheny Valley-Harrison in August for a series of Brain Fitness programs.
Classes will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Aug. 3, 10, 17, and 24 in the community room. The schedule is as follows:
Aug. 3: Introduction to the Brain Fitness Program
Aug. 10: Health and Nutrition
Aug. 17: How Fit Is Your Brain?
Aug. 24: Mental Stimulation and Reducing the Risk of Dementia; Spirituality
The classes are for adults 50 years of age and older. This five-week brain fitness exercise program incorporates the five healthy brain lifestyle areas suggested by neuropsychologist Dr. Paul Nussbaum, (i.e. .physical activity, nutrition, social interaction, mental stimulation, and spirituality.)
Registration is required by July 30. The cost to attend is $5 (for entire course, not per session).
This program is being offered in partnership with Pittsburgh OASIS and is underwritten by The Fine Foundation.
